Rococo Revival rosewood armchair,
c. 1855
Workshop of Elijah Galusha
This exuberant example of Galusha's cabinetmaking
expertise was part of a suite of furniture for the parlor. Note
the detailed carving at the crest (detail slide). Galusha kept
on making furniture using solid wood construction, although his
competitors were using technological innovations like laminated
wood. Galusha's furniture was very popular and can be found in
many museum collections today. See Artistry in Rosewood, a catalog
of an exhibit of Galusha's work held at the Munson Williams Proctor
Institute, Utica, NY in 1995.
